Thinking in English? How?

People usually translate their mother tongue into English when they have conversations. This process makes English learners to have their speaking skill smooth and fluent.
So, in order to speak English naturally, learners must practice thinking in English. When we talk, you need to some ideas in mind so we can produce the words, and sentences. Thinking in English helps us to be ready for those words and sentences structures. It will be in our mind sleeping. Then when we have conversation, those words and sentences will wake up and ready for use.

How do we practice thinking in English?

Well, it is quite tricky as many people can’t do this. They don’t know what to think in English because when an idea comes to their mind, it first is in their native language. Therefore, we have to spend a lot of time to do this exercise every day. For first days, we will need words and very simple sentence structure to apply.

For example, we have the sentence: “I like this movie.” , we can make hundreds of other sentences by replacing the word “movie” with other words in above sentence. Do this replacement exercise in our mind. Just think of those new sentences. And this is we are practicing thinking in English.

Other method which helps us practice thinking in English is to translate the overheard stories anywhere in the way we can. Translate all about what ‘s happening around us is also a good thing.

The more we practice with those action, the better our mind gets familiar with thinking in English, English thinking may come before our native language thinking. It means we can think in English at the time, and our speaking skill will be better.

English Grammar and English Speaking skill

Some people say that ESL learners pay too much attention to their grammar knowledge, so they are unable to speak English well. They think English grammar is not important for English speaking skill. In my opinion, it has something wrong, if we think English grammar is not necessary for speaking skill.
When we use English to communicate in speaking or writing, grammar is like the skeleton, and vocabulary is like the muscle, and the English language knowledge is like the whole body. We can not lack any of them. English grammar and the vocabulary together deliver the meaning of the English communication. If we want to improve our English skills, we do need all of these as the basic materials to build up the skills.

Some people say that we don't need to know English grammar to speak English. In my opinion, it is only right in a few cases only. When we say something simple, and we may use one word to express it. But if the story is not that case, then it is not easy for others to understand us if we use the wrong English grammar.
Learning English speaking we also need to know at least basic grammar knowledge, then from that, we will slowly build up the structures which can help to improve the speaking skill and ability to express our ideas in proper English. English Grammar is such a skeleton, it, together with words, delivered the meaning of sentences, and the speech effectively.
